Cristiano Ronaldo has once again captured headlines following his reactions during the Saudi Super Cup match held on Saturday, which elicited mixed opinions among soccer enthusiasts online.
Ronaldo’s team, Al Nassr, faced a heavy defeat against Al Hilal, leaving him visibly frustrated.
Despite this, Ronaldo managed to score first, netting a goal just before halftime. However, Al Hilal responded strongly in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals.
Ex-Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic equalized, followed by a quick brace from former Premier League player Aleksandar Mitrovic, with Malcom adding a fourth goal in the 72nd minute.
Ronaldo’s disappointment was evident, particularly after Mitrovic’s second goal, as he gestured to indicate that the match was effectively over.
His animated demeanour on the field included a sleeping gesture aimed at a teammate, along with a signal suggesting that his fellow players had faltered under pressure.
Additionally, he was seen making an inappropriate gesture following Al Nassr’s concession of a goal.
The Saudi Super Cup is a yearly football tournament overseen by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.
The latest edition is referred to as “The Diriyah Super Cup” due to sponsorship agreements.
Established in 2013 as a competition featuring two teams, the current format has included four teams since the 2022–23 season, comprising the champions and runners-up of both the King Cup and the Saudi Pro League.
