‘Rest Well Christian Atsu’ – Thomas Partey Pays Tribute to Atsu During Arsenal’s Win Over Bournemouth

When Thomas Partey scored for Arsenal against Bournemouth, he paid a tribute to the late Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu.

Immediately after he started Arsenal’s remarkable comeback against the relegation-threatened Bournemouth, Partey raised his jersey to reveal a tribute to his late international teammate, Christian Atsu, written underneath: “Rest Well Christian Atsu.”

The homage was once more on display following the game when Partey took off his jersey for the post-game festivities.

The tragic earthquakes that wreaked havoc on southern Turkey and northern Syria were formally verified to have claimed the lives of Atsu, a former winger for Chelsea, Newcastle, and Everton, on February 18.

A 12-day search ended with the recovery of Atsu’s corpse from the wreckage. The Turkish city of Hatay resident, age 31, had not been seen since his residence fell on February 6.

Meanwhile, Partey had a wonderful game on the pitch by inspiring his title-chasing side to overturn a 2-0 deficit to eventually win 3-2 thanks to a 97th-minute goal from Reiss Nelson.

The winger’s last-minute strike restored Arsenal’s five-point lead at the top of the Premier League and sparked jubilant celebrations among the Arsenal players and coaching staff.
