Real Madrid Prevented Me From Taking National Team Job-Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has acknowledged that he may have already led a national team.

The experienced coach, who has worked with prestigious clubs such as Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Roma, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and FC Porto, could have potentially been in charge of his home country.

He disclosed that Real Madrid prevented him from managing Portugal at an earlier stage in his career.

Mourinho told journalist Fabrizio Romano: “I had the door open to be Portugal coach twice.

“First time when I was at Real Madrid but Florentino told me, ‘no chance’.

“The second time was at Roma, I was sacked a few months later… but I don’t regret that because I’m happy with the reason.”

Mourinho said earlier this week: “I want to work in the summer, I want to work.”

Mourinho, who was dismissed by Roma in January, has expressed his desire to return to coaching this summer. He has also hinted at the possibility of taking on a managerial role at another Portuguese club.

After leaving his home country in 2004 to lead Chelsea, Mourinho has never remained unemployed for more than a year.

Despite his tendency to spend around three years at each club, he achieved great success in Portugal by securing two league titles with Porto, in addition to winning the UEFA Cup and the Champions League.
