In light of the significant controversy surrounding the government and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation regarding the funding allocated for the African Games coverage, lawmaker Sam ‘Dzata’ George has made a startling revelation.
The NDC representative for Ningo Prampram in parliament reported that an unnamed technician from GBC collapsed while on duty at the event due to hunger.
Sam George pointed out that despite the substantial financial resources associated with the games, GBC failed to adequately support its staff, lacking provisions for food and proper incentives.
During an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Honourable Sam George criticized GBC Director-General Professor Amin Alhassan for his management of contract matters related to the coverage.
“I have in my possession,…memos from the workers union of GBC threatening to put down their tools and stop the broadcast midway through the African Games because of the fact that they had not been given remuneration.
“In fact, at a point in time, one of the technicians of the GBC collapsed on the site because there was no food, there was no water, they had worked from morning. I have his name, I will put it out.”
“I have copies of the minutes of the meeting between the Director General Professor Amin Alhassan and management and the leadership of the workers union intervening and begging the workers not to stop the broadcast.”
The 13th African Games took place in Accra, Ghana, from March 8 to March 23, during which Ghana achieved a remarkable milestone by securing a total of 69 gold medals.
