Pure Emotions As Williams Brothers Help Athletic Bilbao To Win Copa Del Rey

The Williams brothers, consisting of Nico and Inaki, were overwhelmed with emotions following their victory in the Copa Del Rey.

Athletic put an end to their 40-year wait by securing the Copa del Rey title with a 4-2 shootout victory over Mallorca at La Cartuja.

Dani Rodriguez initially gave Los Piratas the lead in the 21st minute, but Oihan Sancet equalized shortly after halftime.

With no winner determined after 120 minutes of play, Alex Berengue scored the decisive penalty to break their title drought. Subsequently, video footage emerged showing tens of thousands of Bilbao fans celebrating the triumph from the San Mames Stadium.

Despite winning the Supercopa de Espana in 2015 and 2021, Bilbao had not claimed victory in the Copa del Rey since 1984 – the same year they last won La Liga.

Following recent final defeats in this competition in 2021, 2020, 2015, and 2012, this triumph will be particularly satisfying.

After the match, Inaki and Nico Williams shared a tearful embrace, encapsulating the emotional moment.
