Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known by his nickname Pelé, has been immortalised in a Portuguese dictionary to sustain his incredible legacy even after death.
The famed Brazilian striker, who won the World Cup three times and died in December at the age of 82, was always associated with brilliance.
After his foundation started the “Pele in the Dictionary” campaign to honour his incredible legacy, the adjective “Pele” has been added to the Portuguese edition of the Michaelis dictionary to describe “someone out of the ordinary.” A total of 100,000 signatures were gathered, and now we are.
The definition will also be seen in the printed edition of the dictionary. “The Pele campaign in the dictionary is one of the most original we have ever participated in. His name in the dictionary is a very important piece of his legacy that will keep Pele alive forever,” said Joe Fraga, executive director of the Pele Foundation. A wonderful act of respect.
What team did Pele play for?

In the 1960s and 1970s, Pele travelled the world with his club team Santos and his national team Brazil, entertaining crowds with his magical brand of soccer. He scored 1,281 goals in his 22-year career. During his two-decade-long footballing career, Pele played only for two clubs, namely Santos and New York Cosmos.
