South African billionaire and mining magnate Patrice Motsepe has secured a second term as the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after being re-elected unopposed. The decision was confirmed during the CAF congress held in Cairo, Egypt, solidifying Motsepe’s continued leadership of African football’s governing body.
Motsepe, who is also the owner of Mamelodi Sundowns, first assumed office in 2021, taking over at a time when CAF faced several financial and administrative challenges.
His leadership over the past four years has been marked by efforts to enhance African football’s global competitiveness, improve infrastructure, and attract investment into the sport across the continent.
In addition to Motsepe’s re-election, Samuel Eto’o, the President of the Cameroon Football Federation and a four-time African Footballer of the Year, secured a spot on the CAF executive committee. Eto’o’s appointment comes after successfully appealing previous bans imposed by FIFA and CAF.
Several other officials were also elected unopposed to the CAF executive committee, including:
- Mustapha Ishola Raji (Liberia)
- Bestine Kazadi Ditabala (Democratic Republic of Congo)
- Wallace Karia (Tanzania)
- Kurt Simeon-Okraku (Ghana)
- Sadi Walid (Algeria)
