Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the daughter of Ghana’s late former president Jerry John Rawlings, has marked the fourth anniversary of her father’s passing with a heartfelt message.
Reflecting on his legacy and values, she shared a tribute to honour the memory of a leader whose impact on Ghana is still deeply felt.
“Papa J! It’s been 4 years since you passed, yet it seems like yesterday,” she wrote, a poignant reminder of how deeply her father’s presence is missed by both his family and the nation he served.
Rawlings died on 12 November 2020 at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, a week after having been admitted for a “short term illness” in Ghana.
Jerry John Rawlings, known for his commitment to justice, environmental stewardship, and ethical leadership, remains an influential figure in Ghanaian history.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings highlighted her father’s compassion and his deep-rooted concerns for his fellow Ghanaians and the environment. “You always thought about the plight of your fellow human being and you cared for the environment with such passion.
If you could see Ghana’s rivers and forests now!” she lamented, subtly alluding to the environmental challenges Ghana faces today.
Known for his strong stance on protecting natural resources, Rawlings consistently championed environmental preservation, long before climate issues became a global priority.
Zanetor’s words offer a powerful reminder of the principles her father held dear. As she recalled, “You always believed that the qualities of ethical leadership reside in each of us.” For Ghanaians who admired Rawlings’ fierce dedication to integrity, these words are both a tribute and a call to action.
