Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed the departure of Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori due to his poor performance. The team management carefully evaluated Ofori’s contributions before making this decision.
After the 2023–24 season, the club’s technical team determined that the 30-year-old goalkeeper, as well as Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare, and Kermit Erasmus, were no longer needed and considered surplus to requirements.
The club’s official statement reads: “As the football season draws to a close, we not only mark the end of our campaign but also bid farewell to some of our esteemed players.
Orlando Pirates can confirm that Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare, and Kermit Erasmus will be leaving us when their respective contracts come to an end on June 30. It is with a deep sense of gratitude that we reflect on the contributions of these players during their time with us.”
Ofori transferred to the Buccaneers from Maritzburg United in 2020 and played a total of 58 games for the club, conceding 36 goals and achieving 30 clean sheets. However, injuries limited his appearances this season to just three matches.
During his time with the team, the former Wa All Stars goalkeeper played a key role in Orlando Pirates winning the South African MTN8 Cup three times.
On the international stage, Ofori represented Ghana 28 times, with his most recent appearance being at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
