Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has lent his voice to the ongoing Free The Citizens campaign in Ghana.
The Nigerian singer and rapper took to social media to express his solidarity with Ghanaians following the arrest of protesters during anti-galamsey and anti-government demonstrations.
Odumodublvck, who says he has a strong connection to Ghana, expressed pausing his busy schedule to address the unrest, stating his concern over the treatment of demonstrators.
He shared his thoughts online, declaring, “I NEED TO INVESTIGATE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY PEOPLE IN GHANA, MY SECOND COUNTRY.”
“Free The Citizens” is an online movement in Ghana that emerged in response to the detention of protesters involved in anti-government and anti-galamsey (illegal mining) demonstrations.
The movement calls for the release of individuals arrested during protests, which have been organized to challenge the government’s handling of illegal mining, environmental degradation, and broader political concerns.
The protests gained momentum as part of the “Stop the Galamsey and Re-Occupy Julorbi House” campaign, aimed at bringing attention to illegal mining’s damaging impact on Ghana’s environment.
During these protests, over 30 individuals, including prominent activists like Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Ralph St. Williams, and Ama Governor, were arrested after clashes with police at the 37 Military Intersections in Accra.
The “Free The Citizens” movement highlights concerns about unlawful detentions, police brutality, and the restriction of the democratic right to protest.
It has received widespread support from Ghanaians, including celebrities, activists, and international figures like US rapper Chance The Rapper, all advocating for the protection of civil liberties and the immediate release of the detained protesters.
