Former U.S. President Barack Obama thrilled supporters at a rally in Detroit on Tuesday night, October 22, by rapping lyrics from Eminem’s iconic song “Lose Yourself.”
The event, held in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, drew significant attention not only for its political undertones but also for this memorable pop-culture moment.
Eminem, a native of Detroit, was present at the rally and played a pivotal role in introducing Obama. The rapper, known for his sharp lyrics and political stances, publicly endorsed Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, using his platform to rally voters.

“As many of you know, Detroit holds a special place in my heart, and Michigan as a whole is crucial in this election,” the 52-year-old rapper told the energized crowd.
He emphasized the importance of Michigan’s role in the upcoming elections, urging attendees to take action. “This election season, more than ever, the spotlight is on us.”
Eminem didn’t stop there. He encouraged everyone present—and those watching from home—to use their voice and vote on November 5. “Your voice matters. Don’t be afraid to express your opinions,” he said, touching on the importance of free speech and the need for fearless expression in today’s society.
The rapper, who has long been a vocal advocate for individual freedoms, added that he believed Kamala Harris represented a future where such freedoms would be safeguarded.
“I think Vice President Harris stands for a vision where these liberties and many others will be protected,” Eminem concluded, before dramatically introducing Obama to the stage.
While Eminem kept his appearance grounded and simple, Obama took a more animated approach, wowing the audience.
The 44th President stepped onto the stage with his usual charm, smiling at the crowd as he acknowledged Eminem’s legacy before doing something completely unexpected—he launched into a spontaneous performance of Eminem’s 2002 hit “Lose Yourself.”
“I don’t usually get nervous, but it’s tough to follow Eminem,” Obama joked, his confidence palpable. Then, to the surprise of everyone, Obama incorporated the famous lyrics into his speech, quoting the lines, “My palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. Vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti.”
The crowd erupted in applause and cheers as Obama’s charismatic rap resonated with them, making the moment even more unforgettable. The former president’s unexpected tribute to Eminem and his engaging demeanour brought a lighthearted yet powerful tone to the rally.

This rally moment, though unusual, is consistent with Obama’s history of using popular culture to convey political messages in a relatable way.
Eminem, on the other hand, has deep ties to Detroit, a city that has shaped his identity and career. Over the years, he has used his platform to shed light on socio-political issues, often speaking out against injustice and encouraging civic engagement.
His support for Kamala Harris aligns with his longstanding advocacy for change and individual rights.
