Nigerian musicians once again had their songs included in the annual playlists released by former President Barack Obama.
Davido made it onto the list with his Grammy-nominated track ‘Unavailable’, featuring Musa Keys. Burna Boy’s collaboration with British rapper 21 Savage, titled ‘Sittin’ on Top of the World’, was also featured.
Asake, a signee of YBNL, made an appearance with his hit song ‘Amapiano’, which features Olamide. Additionally, Tems, a Grammy Award winner, secured a spot with her latest single, ‘Me & U’.
Showcasing his diverse taste in music, Obama also listed Beyoncé’s powerful anthem “America Has a Problem” featuring Kendrick Lamar, Tyla’s soothing track “Water,” and Mitski’s heartfelt “My Love Mine All Mine.”
Obama’s playlist encompasses a wide range of genres, highlighting the Latin hits of Karol G and Shakira, the soulful country and folk melodies of Zach Bryan and Jason Isbell, and the captivating rap tunes by Dave and Burna Boy. He also includes indie rock selections from artists like Blondshell, Big Thief, and Indigo de Souza.
In addition to these notable tracks, Obama pays homage to the British hip-hop community by including Central Cee and Dave’s collaboration “Sprinter” as one of his favorites for 2023. He also acknowledges Stormzy’s “Toxic Trait” featuring Fredo.
It has become an annual tradition for Obama to share his preferred books, movies, and music with his online followers.
Earlier this year, he delighted his audience with a summer playlist that featured tracks such as Boygenius’ “Not Strong Enough,” SZA’s “Snooze,” Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj’s “Princess Diana,” and Rosalía’s “Vampiros.” Obama’s musical selections truly reflect his broad and eclectic taste.
