Nyantakyi Has Suffered Enough, Let’s Move On – Takyi Arhin

In a striking show of sympathy, Aduana Stars General Manager Takyi Arhin has defended former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi, arguing that his downfall could have happened to anyone.

“We are thieves, but when you are not caught, you are not a thief. What happened to Kwesi would have happened to anybody,” Arhin remarked in an interview with Citi Sports, calling for forgiveness as Nyantakyi attempts to rebuild his life after years of legal battles.

His comments come in the wake of a court ruling that discharged Nyantakyi after prosecutors failed to present investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas as a witness in the case that stemmed from the infamous ‘Number 12’ exposé.

The Rise and Fall of Kwesi Nyantakyi

Once the most powerful man in Ghanaian football, Nyantakyi’s career came crashing down in 2018 after he was secretly filmed in Anas’ investigation allegedly engaging in unethical financial dealings. The shocking revelations led to:

  • A lifetime ban from football (later reduced to 15 years) by FIFA
  • His resignation from the GFA and CAF 1st Vice Presidency
  • Criminal charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and corruption

For many, the exposé marked a dark chapter in Ghanaian football, exposing deep-rooted corruption within the system.

Calls for Forgiveness and Lessons Learned

Despite the public outrage that followed Nyantakyi’s downfall, Takyi Arhin believes it’s time to move on. He argued that the former football chief has suffered enough and deserves a second chance.

“At times, when one of us is in trouble, we try to make mountains out of molehills. As humans, we need to pardon our brother. Moving forward, I think he’s learned a whole lot of lessons, and I don’t think Kwesi will get himself into that kind of activity again,” he said.

A Divided Public Opinion

While some agree with Arhin that Nyantakyi has been punished enough, others remain skeptical, insisting that his actions damaged the reputation of Ghanaian football and should not be excused.

With the recent court ruling freeing him from prosecution, the question remains: Is Ghanaian football ready to welcome Kwesi Nyantakyi back, or has his legacy been permanently tainted?
