Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has sparked a conversation on social media, calling for a united effort to address the growing problem of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
In a passionate post, he highlighted the dire impact this activity is having on Ghana’s environment, including the destruction of water bodies, lands, and other natural resources.
“Illegal mining, or galamsey, is no longer just a national concern—it’s gaining global attention because of how it’s wreaking havoc on our environment, Prince David Osei stated, emphasizing the international scope of the issue.
His remarks come at a time when the conversation around Galamsey is heating up, with various sections of Ghanaian society pointing fingers at the government for not doing enough to curb the practice.

However, Osei took a different approach. Rather than assigning blame to a specific group or administration, he urged Ghanaians to see the fight against illegal mining as a “collective responsibility” that transcends political affiliations.
“Blaming the current administration or specific groups is not the solution. It is up to every citizen of Ghana to address the root causes of this problem,” he said, touching on issues like poverty, greed, and corruption that contribute to illegal mining practices.
The actor stressed that focusing solely on political or short-term interests would only prolong the suffering caused by Galamsey.
Instead, he believes Ghanaians should prioritize environmental protection and work together as one nation to eradicate the illegal practice that threatens the country’s future. “We must unite and take decisive action to protect our environment and natural resources,” he added.
Osei’s plea comes at a crucial time when many Ghanaians are growing frustrated with the apparent lack of progress in the fight against illegal mining.
While the government has introduced policies and launched campaigns to combat Galamsey, enforcement remains a challenge.
In his message, Prince David Osei also expressed a sense of urgency. “The time to act is now,” he declared, warning that further inaction could leave Ghana’s future generations without access to clean water or fertile land.
