Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has shed light on the often tricky dynamics of musical collaborations in the industry, sharing candid thoughts in a recent interview.

Known for his distinct sound and rising fame, Odumodublvck highlighted the pressures many artists face when releasing music with high-profile names and the perceived entitlement around promotion.

“There are some artists that, when you release music with them, they look as if they are doing you a favour,” Odumodublvck stated, offering a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes realities of the music world.

He emphasized that, for him, a featured artist’s most important contribution is delivering a solid verse, rather than promoting the collaboration on their platforms.

The rapper, whose unique blend of street rap has earned him a dedicated following, made it clear that he doesn’t expect featured artists to post or promote their collaborations.

“I’ve never released music and asked the artist that I featured to post it. I don’t care if you promote it.

“You’ve done the most important thing by giving me a verse,” he added. This perspective underscores Odumodublvck’s belief in the value of artistry over superficial validation, as he sees the creative contribution itself as the highest form of respect.

Odumodublvck singled out one of Nigeria’s most influential musicians, Wizkid, with admiration in his comments.

Speaking about the Grammy-winning artist, he explained that even if Wizkid did not promote a track they collaborated on, it wouldn’t cause any tension.

“If Wizkid gives me a verse and my album comes and he doesn’t post about it, I will not be angry,” he said, pointing to the immense respect he holds for Wizkid’s artistry and legacy.

Odumodublvck went further, warning that any attempt to harbour resentment toward Wizkid could backfire.

“If you start hating on Wizkid Machala, you lose,” he added, using Wizkid’s famous moniker Machala, which symbolizes his kingly status in the music world.

Odumodublvck’s admiration for Wizkid is shared by many in the industry, where the Essence hitmaker’s contribution to Afrobeats is seen as unparalleled.
