A highly publicised event for the unveiling of the lead face behind the New Force political movement has reportedly been called off.

The event, which was scheduled to be hosted at Independence Square in Accra on Sunday, January 7, 2024, had several political figures, including Nigeria’s Peter Obi, Kenya’s P.L.O. Lumumba, South Africa’s Julius Malema and former Permanent Representative of the African Union to the United States, Dr. Chihombori-Quao, billed as speakers.

However, according to a report by GhOne TV, the event has been called off at the eleventh hour.

A video shared by the media outfit shows the Independence Square fully set up but virtually empty of human presence.

According to the report, the delay in the commencement of the event has the underpinnings of state security outfits.

“Current mood at the Independence Square, Accra. What was projected to be a well-attended unveiling ceremony for the leader of the NEW FORCE MOVEMENT has stalled. Reports circulating is that the organisers have been forced to call off the event, choppers were seen flying around suspected to be operatives of National Security,” the video shared by GHOne is captioned.

Meanwhile, according to 3Music’s Olele Salvador, the invited speakers and artistes who have been billed to perform at the event have been asked by the Ghana Police Service and the National Security to return to their hotels.

“Information gathered by DTS’ suggest that the speakers and artists billed for this event were allegedly asked to return to their respective hotels by Police & National Security officials.

“It’s unclear the motive/reason behind the action,” the journalist wrote.

The New Force emerged recent months as new political movement.

Except for a few billboards and public advertisements of a faceless individual, little is known about the movement that has kept the nation and political watchers on edge in the last few months.
