Mwafreeka’s Career

He has a lengthy history in show business and has always attempted to remain relevant. Unlike many artistes, Mwafreeka is diverse. Rapper, host, actor, presenter, and film producer. His ‘Raiyaa’ programme, which he co-hosts with fellow comedian Rapcha, is a humorous one.

As accomplished on television as he is in the music industry, he has served as a judge on two seasons of Channel O MC Africa. He was also a co-host on the sociopolitical youth programme The Space alongside the beautiful Kaz. ‘Raiyaa’ has kept him on our television screens for nearly four years. He believes that his music opened doors to opportunities and led him to his current position.

“I started rapping in 2003. I used to live in Eastleigh and was friends with Jua Cali. I used to listen to songs by Jua Cali and Nonini and felt I could do it. I recorded my first track at Calif records but it wasn’t good enough to be a hit so when I joined campus at UoN a few years back, I vowed to perfect my skill. Here I am now, the Mwafreeka that everybody respects.”

He is the Executive Producer of Kuruu, a Kenyan adaptation of the popular American animated series The Boondocks. Also featured are the vocals of his companion, the comedian Rapcha. The series will shortly premiere on television, Mwafreeka promises. Kuruu is produced by the film production company ‘I am The Future.’ Under the same production company, he is also working on the celebrity-focused entertainment magazine programme Iko Nini.

On the international stage, he has collaborated with K’Naan and Craig G, both of whom he greatly admires. He envisions collaborating with Stephen Marley in the future due to his political acumen. Locally, he has collaborated with numerous artists, all of whom he respects. His album ‘Akili ya Mwafreeka’, which has already produced two hit singles, is nearing completion. He promises that shortly after the album’s release, his first tour will visit campuses across Kenya to disseminate hip hop love, just as Rabbit did.
