Nigerian socialite Mr Jollof has taken legal action against activist Verydarkman, suing him for ₦500 million over allegedly defamatory remarks concerning his wife.
The legal battle stems from comments made by Verydarkman during a public clash between the two, where he insinuated that Mr Jollof’s wife had played a questionable role in helping her husband secure a political appointment as Senior Special Assistant (SSA).
Tensions between Mr Jollof and Verydarkman escalated a few weeks ago when the activist made the controversial claim, which quickly gained attention on social media.
Verydarkman’s statements implied that Mr Jollof’s rise to his SSA position was not based solely on merit but was facilitated by his wife’s involvement in undisclosed matters.
The accusations led to a heated exchange between the two public figures, with Mr Jollof vehemently denying the allegations.
In response to the claims, Mr Jollof issued a writ of summons, which he shared on his social media platforms, revealing that he is pursuing legal redress. According to the writ, Verydarkman has been given 30 days to respond and appear in court to defend his statements. Should he fail to do so, the court could impose further legal consequences on him.
The socialite is seeking ₦500 million in damages, citing the harm caused by the defamatory remarks to both his reputation and his family.
Mr Jollof argues that the accusations have brought unwarranted public scrutiny on his wife and their personal lives, affecting not only their social standing but also his professional career.
