Mohammed Kudus paid tribute to Christian Atsu who was officially confirmed dead on Saturday after he went missing following the devastating earthquake that rocked Syria and Turkey.

There was a sense of déjà vu after the Ghanaian international who was the only bright spot in Ghana’s campaign at the 2022 World Cup staged in Qatar scored a stunning freekick in the dying embers of their game against Sparta Rotterdam.

After scoring for his team Ajax in the 84th minute, Kudus brought up his shirt to reveal a ‘RIP Atsu’ on a singlet.

His teammates swarmed around him to congratulate him and also share in commiserating with the rest of the football community over the demise of Christian Atsu.

Tru News Report came across the video on IG shred by @Gabsnewz and we have shared it here for your viewing pleasure.

Immediately after the game, Kudus spoke to reporters and reveal his admiration for the referee for not booking him over his goal celebration as it was an offence to take off one’s jersey while celebrating.

Mohammed Kudus said: “We have football rules but this is beyond football, this is about life and death. The referee told me it’s not allowed (shirt removal) but he understands because this is a bigger situation than football. A big respect from me to the referee.”
