Medeama SC have on the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League after defeating Tamale City on the final day of the Ghana Premier League season.

The final round of 2022–23 Ghana Premier League matches began at the same time that Medeama SC defeated Tamale City at Tarkwa’s Akoon Park in a decisive victory. Joshua Agyemang’s goal in the first half and Jonathan Sowah’s two goals in the second half gave the Yellow and Mauves the Ghana Premier League championship this year.

Tamale City was relegated from Ghana’s top division after just one season as a result of the 3-0 defeat at the Akoon Park. After match week 34, the Citizens had 42 points and placed 16th overall.

Medeama SC had an outstanding season, winning 18, drawing six, and suffering 10 losses. When Sekondi Hasaacas won the league for the first time in 1977, it was the last time a team from the West did it. Since that time, the area has had trouble producing a champion.

Prior to Sekondi Hasaacas winning the final trophy for the region in 1977, Sekondi Eleven Wise was the first club to win the region’s inaugural trophy in 1960. The two Sekondi-based clubs are currently competing in Ghana Football’s third division, having been demoted a few years ago.

Prior to the game, Ghanaian artist Martin King Arthur, also known as Kofi Kinaata in the entertainment world, stormed the Akoon Park to watch the game and provide his full support to the team from his hometown.

Kofi Kinaata, unquestionably one of the best musicians from the West of the country wore a beautiful jersey of the home team and watched proceedings with keen interest.
