Manchester City Pravail Over ‘Stubborn’ Inter Milan To Win First Champions League

At Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Manchester City defeated Internazionale 1-0 to win the Champions League title for the first time in their history.

The solitary goal of Saturday’s game was scored by Rodri after a scoreless first half in which Kevin De Bruyne left the game early due to a hamstring injury.

Pep Guardiola’s team had already won the Premier League and the FA Cup. Romelu Lukaku, a substitute for Inter, had a wonderful opportunity to tie the score late on, but Ederson managed to block his header. Italians made a late push for a goal, but City held on to win the title of European champions for the first time in their history.

City had to work hard to defeat Inter by a small margin in Istanbul. Rodri scored the game’s lone goal, and Ederson made two clutch saves for City in the dying minutes to help them win the trophy. It’s the conclusion of Guardiola’s 12-year quest for a second Champions League trophy.

Whether he could win it without Lionel Messi has been a question that has followed him from Barcelona to Bayern Munich to City, and he has now provided an answer. The fact that no other English side has won the triple since the 1998–1999 Manchester United team illustrates just how difficult it is to do so.

City has defeated United in the FA Cup final, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and Arsenal in the Premier League. They have gained the title of best team in the world and European champions.

The topic of Guardiola’s decision to bench Rodri for the 2021 Champions League final matchup against Chelsea was brought up once more during a news conference with the City boss last week. Thus, it may have been fate that the Spain midfielder would score the important first goal against Inter.

The fact that Rodri’s first Champions League goal came against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals was significant, but his second goal was much more meaningful. Only four goals this season, he doesn’t score often, but he was in the right spot at the right moment to rush onto Bernardo Silva’s cut-back and pass his finish into the goal.
