Help has finally come for former Black Queens goalkeeper Memunatu Sulemana after news about her deplorable living conditions went viral online.

It has emerged that former President John Mahama has extended a helping hand to Memunatu Sulemana, a former goalkeeper of the Senior National Women’s Soccer Team, the Black Queens, who was living in squalor and poverty.

The plight of Memunatu was brought to the fore by journalist Ohenenana Kwame Osei, who first published her story on social media after visiting her ramshackle wooden structure in Kaneshie. Memunatu had spent all she had earned taking care of her diabetic mother, leaving her with no place to live.

Touched by her story, Mahama, according to the Daily Post has provided her with a one-bedroom self-contained house in Dansoman and an undisclosed amount of money to start a business of her choice.

Memunatu was overwhelmed with gratitude and thanked the former President for his kind heart. Memunatu was once a national favourite in women’s football and her heroics in post for the Black Queens sent them to the World Cup. She was also a goalkeeper for the National women’s under-17 team, the Black Maidens.
