John Dramani Mahama has reacted to the news of Black Stars winger Christian Atsu being trapped under rubble after a devastating earthquake in Turkey.

On Monday, an earthquake of a 7.8 magnitude shook parts of Turkey and Syria, wreaking havoc all throughout the two nations, the reports add.

According to writer Yaz Sabuncuolu and numerous other Turkish media sites, while Atsu and club sporting director Taner Savut are still missing, some Hatayspor players have been rescued as a result of the earthquake.

A search and rescue effort is in progress. Newcastle United, Christian Atsu’s previous team, tweeted: “Praying for some great news, Christian Atsu.” The former Black Stars forward who also played for prestigious English clubs like Chelsea, Everton, Bournemouth, and Newcastle for several years, joined the Turkish club in 2022.

A few hours later, a second earthquake with an epicentre close to Kahramanmaras struck, and the death toll has risen to 1,200.

The sad news, hinged on the fact that Atsu has been affected has created a measure of anxiety in Ghana.

To this end, Ghana’s former president, John Dramani Mahama took his social media page to ask Ghanaians to pray about the situation so something positive will come out of the frantic search launched to locate them.

“Let’s continue to pray for our brother, Christian Atsu, and his club director. The city of Hayat is in the region affected by the earthquake. Let’s continue to pray that God spares their lives,” he tweeted.
