Kwesi Nyantakyi Speaks After High Court’s Ruling In The Anas And Kennedy Agyapong Lawsuit

Former GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi has claimed vindication after the High Court ruled in favor of renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, in their defamation case.

Speaking to Oman FM, Kwesi Nyantakyi said the verdict proves his innocence and supports his view that Anas is corrupt.

“The court has stripped him naked. He has been disgraced. He claims to be an angel but the court has shown that he is worse than the devil. I will take no further action but his story is everywhere. He is a bad person and now he has been exposed. A lot of people know him as a crook,” he said.

On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, the Accra High Court dismissed the 25 million cedis defamation lawsuit brought by Anas and ordered the investigative journalist to pay 50,000 cedis in compensation to Kennedy Agyapong.

Speaking after the verdict, Kennedy Agyapong said he wanted the former president of the Ghana Football Association, who was mocked in the documentary, to know that his victory was for him. He also rejected the $50,000 the court had given him and warned Anas to watch his actions.

“All I will say is the victory is especially for Kwesi Nyantakyi and this gentleman. What they have gone through in Anas’s humiliation in this country, nobody should go through that,” Kennedy Agyapong told the press. I will tell you today, the ¢50,000 I don’t need it, I will give it to him but he should live with his conscience.” he said.

In 2018, following the publication of his infamous “Number 12” documentary, which sought to expose the corruption in Ghanaian football, Anas sued the New Patriotic Party MP for allegedly defaming him.

The well-known reporter claimed that Kennedy Agyapong defamed him in his documentary “Who Watches the Watchman?” and wanted the court to give him 25 million cedis in damages.
