Kwadwo Sheldon Slams Stonebwoy’s ‘Curtain Raiser’ Comment on Shatta Wale

Following Shatta Wale’s performance at the highly anticipated Freedom Street concert in Jamaica, which received mixed reactions from fans and critics alike, Kwadwo Sheldon has come to the artist’s defence.

Wale, who performed at the event hosted by Vybz Kartel alongside artists like Spice, Popcaan, and Busta Rhymes, was criticized for his song choices and stage presence. Fellow artist Stonebwoy also caused a stir with his remark, calling Wale a “curtain raiser” for the event, a term often used for artists who perform before the main act.

However, Kwadwo Sheldon wasn’t having it. Addressing the situation head-on, he took issue with Stonebwoy’s comment and explained that Shatta Wale’s performance wasn’t limited to simply warming up the crowd.

“For those who think Wale was just there to warm up the crowd, you’re wrong,” Sheldon clarified. “He performed right in the middle of the event, and that’s not the spot for a curtain raiser. He had significant stage time, and it wasn’t a setup.”

Sheldon, who has often been vocal about his thoughts on various artists, stressed that Wale’s position at the concert wasn’t one of an opener, but of an artist who was recognized and respected in his own right.

His defense of Wale came after many fans criticized the artist’s song choices, believing they didn’t resonate with the Jamaican audience. But Sheldon explained that these decisions were made by Wale’s Jamaican management team, who selected songs that have a strong following in the Caribbean.

“The songs that Wale performed were selected by his Jamaican team, and these tracks have a strong following in the Caribbean region,” Sheldon said. “The man is an international artist. It wasn’t about failing to engage the crowd—it was a cultural exchange, and sometimes it takes time for the audience to vibe with a different sound.”

In a show of support for Shatta Wale, Sheldon acknowledged the challenges artists face when performing in unfamiliar territories but emphasized that these moments should be seen as opportunities for growth.

“No one gets everything right every time,” Sheldon remarked. “Wale is a seasoned artist, and he has earned his stripes. Let’s give him the grace to learn and grow from this experience.”
