New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has announced his intention to reduce the size of the government if elected.

He promised to form a government with fewer than 60 ministers if he were to win the 2024 election for president.

Speaking in an interview on UTV’s Mpu Ne Mpu, Kennedy Agyapong, stated that he would combine some ministries, arguing that Ghana has a large number of ministers compared to other developed countries with similar populations, such as the United States and the United Kingdom.

When asked how many ministers he intended to appoint, he said, “In fact, I haven’t included that in my plans, but not more than 60, the highest number of ministers I will employ is 60, and I will merge some of the ministries.”

“Ask yourself, even America with a population of 350 million, how many ministers do they have? How many ministers does the UK have? Why is it that America has been able to do it that we can’t?”

Kennedy Agyapong, recently stated that he will upstage his NDC counterpart, John Dramani if he is given the nod by his party to lead the NPP in the 2024 elections. In a social media post on June 15 2023, Kennedy Agyapong tweeted “I will beat John Mahama hands down in the 2024 election.”
