Joyce Bawa Mogtari, a close aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has called on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer in the 2024 elections, to accept the results and reflect on the outcome.
In a candid statement shared on social media, Mogtari urged the defeated candidate to embrace reality rather than resist it.
“Dear Sir, what other options did they have for you other than to concede in the face of a crushingly humiliating defeat?” she wrote.

“Please accept that you lost the election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and do some deep introspection. Thank you.” Her statement reflects the position of many in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who see the election result as a definitive mandate from the people.
Former President John Dramani Mahama’s victory was momentous, as he reclaimed Ghana’s presidency with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast.
Dr. Bawumia secured 4,657,304 votes, a significant gap that left little room for contestation.
The Electoral Commission’s announcement of the results on December 9 marked a decisive return to power for Mahama, whose campaign had promised a renewal of hope and governance for Ghanaians.
The election outcome reflects widespread public dissatisfaction with the NPP’s stewardship over the past years.
