Countryman Songo, real name is Patrick Osei Agyemang has slammed Chris Hughton for playing politics within the national team soon after he was appointed the substantive coach of the Black Stars.
Songo mentioned on the latest edition of his Fire for Fire show on Adom TV that he was shocked to see Amartey and Partey captaining the team in Kumasi and Lunada respectively in the absence of Dede Ayew who was dropped for no apparent reason.
He claimed that Jordan Ayew, the team’s most senior player, should have been assigned the responsibility of serving as captain in the absence of his brother. In the absence of his brother Andre Ayew, he argued that Jordan Ayew, who has extensive experience with the national team, should be named vice-captain rather than Thomas Partey and Richard Ofori.
“If Dede Ayew the captain is not around, Partey the second captain is also not there and the third captain is also not around who should be the captain?” Songo quizzed.
He added, “Jordan Ayew even has more experience than Partey so he should have been the second captain. So how come you give the captain’s armband to Amartey.”
Songo believes that it is as a result of these captainship issues that the Black Stars have failed to win a trophy in many years.
He said, “How can Ghana win a trophy with this kind of politics in the Black Stars? This is a bad attitude.
On the same show, Songo revealed that Andre Ayew was victimised by Chris Hughton in relation to Black Stars’ match against Angola in the AFCON qualifier.
Songo whose real name is Patrick Osei Agyemang said when it was time for hiring a coach for the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association requested Ayew’s opinion as the team’s captain on the potential hiring of Chris Hughton and Kwasi Appiah.
Ayew’s opinion of Chris Hughton, which he confided in the President of the Ghana Football Association, according to Songo, is the reason the coach decided to bench him for the first leg of the doubleheader against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on March 23.
“You enquired from the player if he believes Kwasi Appiah was the right man for the job and he offered that Kwasi Appiah is a local coach who with the right support will do a good job with the team. He said that Kwasi Appiah knows the terrain and knows how to navigate African football.
