Sheikh Tophic Kadir, the Deputy Communications Manager of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), shed light on the conversation that took place between Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew and coach James Kwasi Appiah following Ghana’s October 10, 2024, match against Sudan in a recent interview on Asempa FM.
The match, which saw Ghana playing well but failing to convert their chances into goals, left Jordan Ayew visibly frustrated, and the moment was captured in a video that soon went viral.
Kadir explained that Ayew’s emotional exchange with Kwasi Appiah wasn’t about any personal grievances, as some might have speculated, but rather stemmed from his deep concern over the team’s performance.
“When I saw the video trending, I went behind the scenes to speak to Kwasi Appiah,” Kadir recounted.
“From the conversation, Jordan was complaining to Kwasi that he did not understand why the team played so well and created good chances, yet they were unable to score. Watch the video carefully, and you will see him asking, ‘why, why.’”
This isn’t the first time Ayew has expressed his frustration over the team’s struggles. Kadir revealed that after a previous match in Kumasi against Niger, Jordan Ayew was so emotional that he broke down in tears.
“In Kumasi, after we played Niger, Jordan cried. He spoke to Otto Addo the same way after Ghana lost to Angola. So obviously, he was worried about how things panned out.”
