Jordan Ayew literally came to the party at the Baba Yara Sports stadium, leading the Black Stars to a resounding victory against a resilient Central African Republic team in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Celebrating his 100th cap for the Black Stars, Ayew left an indelible mark with a remarkable hat-trick, while Fatawu Issahaku added another goal to make it four for Ghana.
The Central Africans fought back valiantly, scoring three goals in an exhilarating match that had Ghanaian supporters on the edge of their seats. Ayew, who previously secured a win against Mali in Bamako, opened the scoring with a well-executed penalty in the sixth minute after a foul on Issahaku.
However, CAR swiftly responded with Louis Mafouta netting two goals on the counterattack, giving the visitors the advantage at halftime.
Undeterred, the Black Stars displayed their resilience in the second half. Ayew equalized with a powerful header from Gideon Mensah’s cross, and Issahaku restored Ghana’s lead with a skilful strike in the 62nd minute.
Ayew completed his hat-trick shortly after, putting Ghana ahead 4-2. Despite a late surge from CAR, with Mafouta completing his own hat-trick, the Black Stars held on to secure the victory.
This triumph propels Ghana to the top of Group I, and they now eagerly await the outcomes of other matches to confirm their position after four rounds.
