UK-based Ghanaian muscian and preacher Sonnie Badu has opened up about his struggles with depression, sharing a raw account of a challenging six-month period in his life in an interview on Onua TV hosted by actress and TV personality Nana Ama Mcbrown.
He recounted days spent isolated in his office, often for up to 12 hours with the lights turned off, overwhelmed by the weight of his emotions and reluctant to engage with anyone.
“It was really bad,” he admitted, acknowledging the dark thoughts that occasionally crept in, including fleeting considerations of self-harm.
What kept him anchored during this turbulent time was the thought of his six children. “They are young, and if something happened to me, that would be my biggest concern.
That thought gave me hope,” he expressed, highlighting the deep sense of responsibility that fueled his desire to fight through the darkness.

Sonnie also candidly discussed the financial pressures that compounded his emotional struggles, noting how overwhelming it can be to manage bills, especially after purchasing a home.
“You know how the US system is. All the bills come after buying a house,” he explained, illustrating the added stress that can accompany major life changes.
In his journey toward healing, Sonnie sought solace through prayer and counseling, crediting Rev. Eastwood as a pivotal figure in his recovery.
“He was the one God used to redeem me,” Sonnie said, underscoring the importance of support and guidance in overcoming mental health challenges.
