UK-based Ghanaian gospel artist and preacher Sonnie Badu has opened up about a traumatic incident that dramatically altered his life in a recent appearance on Onua Showtime hosted by Nana Ama McBrown.
“I went through depression for six months; I’m left with only three toes,” he revealed, shedding light on the emotional and physical toll of his experience.
Describing the accident, Sonnie recounted, “On that day, I was cleaning up and I slipped on the staircase. My rail is a metal.
“I was supposed to hit my head on the ground, but I went on the floor with my shoulder to protect myself. So, I landed on my shoulder, and my leg went through the metal sharp rail, and my toes were slitted.”
He vividly painted a picture of the chaos that ensued: “I was bleeding everywhere. We drove to the hospital, and I walked to the emergency. When the doctors checked, they asked, ‘Where are my toes?’ and I asked, ‘Which toes?’ before I realized my toes had been slitted.”
In a shocking twist, he instructed his team members to search for his severed toes, saying, “I asked my team members to go check with a torchlight, and they saw the toes on the floor, picked them up, and placed them in an iced box and brought it to the hospital. The doctors checked and refused it.”
Sonnie Badu was involved in a domestic accident just days before his much-anticipated concert, “Sonnie Badu Live In Concert – Rhythms of Africa,” scheduled for December 9, 2023, in Accra.
The accident occurred on November 30, leading to Badu undergoing major surgery. He took to social media to share the news, expressing gratitude for his recovery and assuring fans that the concert would still proceed as planned.
In his post, Badu reflected on the incident, stating, “the devil really tried it, but we only win,” emphasizing his determination to move forward despite the setback.
He apologized to churches and media outlets for any disappointment caused by his absence from previous engagements while he recuperates
