It Really Pained Me- Seun Kuti Reflects on Missing Davido’s Wedding Invitation

Seun Kuti has opened up about feeling hurt after not receiving an invitation to Davido’s widely publicized wedding.

Despite their seemingly close relationship, Kuti revealed that he was left off the guest list for one of Nigeria’s most high-profile celebrity weddings.

He disclosed this during a conversation on Curiosity Made Me Ask, a podcast hosted by comedian Isbae U.

During the interview, Seun Kuti expressed his surprise and deep disappointment, recounting how Davido had regularly visited his legendary nightclub, the ‘Shrine,’ often accompanied by a large group of friends.

According to Kuti, Davido and his entourage would come to enjoy drinks and spend time at the venue but would never pay for their drinks.

“It really pained me,” Seun confessed during the podcast. “I couldn’t sleep for almost a week. Davido used to come to the Shrine with his people—sometimes a group of 100—and they would drink, enjoy themselves, and never pay. I thought we were cool, but when it was time for his wedding, I wasn’t invited.”

For Seun Kuti, the exclusion stung more because it challenged his understanding of their relationship.

Davido, an Afrobeats icon with a reputation for being generous and friendly, was someone Seun believed he had a bond with—enough to warrant an invitation to such a significant event.

Isbae U, in his typical comedic style, teased Seun by asking, “How does it feel to be one of the top Nigerian celebrities who wasn’t invited to one of the biggest weddings in the country?” The question, while lighthearted, touched a nerve, prompting Seun to open up about the hurt he felt.

“It pained me, it really did,” Seun responded with a mix of humour and vulnerability. “I didn’t expect to be left out like that, especially with how often he came around the Shrine. It felt personal.”
