Seun Kuti, the son of the iconic Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti, has opened up about his childhood experiences, discussing the challenges he faced with basic tasks during his early years.
The Afrobeat artist elaborated that his difficulties in domestic responsibilities stemmed from being overly pampered.
During his appearance on the Zero Conditions podcast, Seun expressed that he enjoyed special treatment from his father, whom he regards as an exceptional parent, even though his siblings might have different perspectives.
In his words:
“I won the daddy lottery. Fela Kuti is my favourite person in the world. If you asked my brothers they could say he’s a terrible dad but to me, he was an amazing father,” he said.
“You don’t know how spoilt I was growing up. Till now, I have never done laundry in my life. I don’t know how to wash anything. I’m not bragging.”
Seun also discussed his musical journey, revealing that he joined his father’s band, Egypt 80, at the age of 8.
“I have been with Fela’s Egypt 80 band since I was 8 years old. So when Fela died my family asked me to continue with the band & keep all the money I make,” he said.
