Gospel musician Empress Gifty has revealed that she was approached to fill the coveted seat left by Nana Ama McBrown after the actress and television host departed from United Television (UTV).
In an interview on Pure FM, the award-winning singer shared how Fadda Dickson, Managing Director of Despite Media, and Lawyer Kennedy Osei, General Manager, personally reached out to her with the offer to take on McBrown’s role.
However, despite the exciting opportunity, Empress Gifty had to turn it down due to her busy schedule.
“Fadda Dickson and Lawyer Kennedy Osei approached me to replace Nana Ama McBrown after her departure from the station, but my busy schedule wouldn’t allow me, so I’m currently sitting in for MzGee,” Empress Gifty revealed during the interview.
The offer came at a time when McBrown’s exit from UTV created a stir in the Ghanaian media landscape.
McBrown had become a beloved figure on UTV, especially as the host of United Showbiz, a popular entertainment program that blends celebrity interviews, current events, and lively debates. Her departure to Onua TV left a gap, and many speculated about who would be able to step into her shoes and maintain the show’s unique flavour.

Empress Gifty, with her charisma, strong presence, and deep connection to the entertainment industry, seemed like a natural fit.
Known not only for her music but also for her vibrant personality, she had all the qualities that could have made her an excellent successor to McBrown.
However, Gifty’s other commitments ultimately made it difficult for her to take on the role.
As an accomplished gospel musician, businesswoman, and minister, she juggles a demanding career and personal responsibilities that wouldn’t allow her to fully dedicate herself to hosting a regular show.
Despite this, she remains connected to UTV by sitting in as a temporary host for the media personality MzGee, who has taken over the United Showbiz hosting duties.
Empress Gifty’s temporary role on the show has been well received, as her unique energy and deep knowledge of the entertainment world add to the dynamic mix of the program.
However, her decision not to take on the role full-time points to the importance of finding a balance between professional opportunities and personal priorities.
While Gifty has carved a name for herself in the gospel music scene with her powerful voice and inspirational songs, her presence on United Showbiz has allowed fans to see a different side of her.
It also highlights the increasing trend of crossover success in Ghana’s media space, where musicians, actors, and media personalities are diversifying their roles.
Despite not being able to accept the permanent hosting position, Empress Gifty’s brief stints on the show have left fans wondering if she might eventually take up a more regular role in television when the timing is right.
For now, however, she remains focused on her music career and other projects, while still contributing to UTV when her schedule allows.
Her openness about the offer from Fadda Dickson and Kennedy Osei reflects her gratitude for being considered and her respect for the network.
“I’m honored that they thought of me for such a huge responsibility,” she said during the interview. “But sometimes you have to know when to say no, even to great opportunities, if it means preserving your peace and balance.”
In the meantime, MzGee has taken the reins at United Showbiz, bringing her own flair to the show.
