If You Don’t Want Insults, Don’t Apply- Ntow Gyan Warns Kwesi Appiah Against Black Stars’ Job

Former Asante Kotoko star Ntow Gyan has asked Kwesi Appiah to ‘respect himself’ and not go for the vacant Black Stars’ job.

Ntow Gyan believes Appiah has contributed his quota to Ghana in his capacity as a former coach and player and needs to stay put if he wants to sustain his legacy.

“Kwesi Appiah has been in charge of the Black Stars twice and is seeking a third coming. I don’t want Ghanaians to be lambasting him, he has done his part for Ghana during his playing days and as a coach so I will personally advise him to concentrate on the job he is doing at the moment,” Ntow Gyan said as quoted by Footballghana.

“I know he did not apply for the job on his own, I know there are people who are pushing for his return but I want to be frank, it will not help him. He should concentrate on his job. He is respected because of what he has done for the nation so he should maintain that respect.”

The Black Stars coaching job became vacant after interim coach Otto Addo announced his resignation after the debacle in Qatar where the team finished bottom of the table following losses to Portugal and Uruguay in Group H.

Appiah, who was a former player and coach for the team on two separate occasions, has expressed that he is still interested in the post after Addo left to continue his permanent job at Dortmund in Germany.

He admitted to having applied for the position at Sompa Sports. “When I heard the FA state that no Ghanaians had applied, I thought that as a Ghanaian, I had to apply to show that we can prove ourselves, therefore I added my name to the foreign list,” the applicant said.

The GFA reports that over sixty applications—the majority of which were from international coaches—have been received.
