Ghanaian dancehall icon Shatta Wale has spoken about his relationship with Sarkodie during an appearance on Angel FM in Kumasi.

His reflective tone came as a surprise to many, as he shed light on the dynamics between himself and the celebrated rapper.

“Sarkodie is a good guy, and we’ve had great times together,” Shatta Wale shared during the interview, his voice tinged with nostalgia.

“I’ve always been someone who brings laughter and good vibes wherever I go, and he used to enjoy that. But sometimes, I feel he takes advantage of my friendly nature to make me look like the immature one.”

The leader of the SM movement made it clear, however, that there is no lingering animosity. He even admitted to missing the camaraderie they once shared, particularly moments that showcased his humour, which Sarkodie appreciated.

“I respect Sarkodie a lot. Sometimes, I miss him,” Shatta Wale admitted, a rare glimpse of vulnerability from the typically confrontational artist.

In a follow-up conversation with Ike De Unpredictable, Shatta Wale elaborated on the source of his frustrations with Sarkodie. He explained that his occasional criticisms stem not from malice but from a desire to see the rapper succeed on a greater scale.

“The thing about Sarkodie is that he doesn’t listen to advice, and that’s frustrating,” Shatta Wale explained. “If he implemented even half of what I’ve told him, we could be achieving so much more, not just individually but for the industry as a whole.”

Shatta Wale’s comments mark a shift from the fiery exchanges the two have had in the past. While their relationship has often been characterized by public spats, his tone now suggests a desire for reconciliation and collaboration.

“I don’t want to confront him like I used to,” Shatta Wale said. “At this point, it’s about growth and achieving our goals.”
