Former Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has shared a deeply personal and unsettling experience regarding the collation of parliamentary results during the 2020 general elections.
Speaking on Joy News’ News File program on Saturday, December 28, 2024, the seasoned politician revealed a moment of betrayal and emotional turmoil that shook him.

“I had indicated to them that I was conducting my own collation,” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu recalled. “We started afresh, as I strongly objected to the actions they had taken.”
His words highlighted his dissatisfaction with the initial steps in the collation process, a moment that foreshadowed the deeper challenges that lay ahead.
The situation took an emotional turn when Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu arrived at the collation centre to find the returning officer in a vulnerable state.
“We went there and found him sitting on the ground, sobbing profusely,” he said, describing the scene that added a human dimension to the already tense political environment.
While Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu refrained from naming the returning officer, he made it clear that their shared history made the situation all the more painful.

“The returning officer, I don’t want to mention his name, and I knew his political leaning.
And yet, because we had been together for quite a while, I was taking care of the guy’s school fees at university, and yet that’s what happened,” he explained.
