Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has opened up about his decision to delay collecting his share of the U-20 World Cup team’s investment funds, a move he describes as principled and rooted in his personal values.
Speaking on Angel TV, the footballer revealed his stance, emphasizing the importance of transparency in financial matters.
“There was a bit of controversy about it, and although I’ve not collected mine, I can confirm that about 11 players have received their monies,” Agyemang-Badu stated.
The funds in question, an investment made for the players following their victorious U-20 World Cup campaign in 2009, have recently become a topic of discussion.
While some team members have chosen to claim their shares, Agyemang-Badu has held back, citing the need for clarity about the investment’s growth and disbursement process.
“I’ve got a policy I live by, which is that if someone does something for me and I want to accept it, I need an explanation first,” he explained.
“Therefore, I went to the bank to seek clarification and reported the matter to some of my elders for advice.”
Adding another layer to the situation, he disclosed that fellow team member and captain of the Black Stars, André Dede Ayew, has taken a similar stance.
“As of today, I can confirm that Dede Ayew has given the Power of Attorney to Fiifi Tackie to not collect his money and to hold off on mine as well so that we can seek answers,” Agyemang-Badu revealed.
