In life, certain moments hit harder than others, and for veteran gospel musician Abena Serwaa Ophelia, the recent tragic accident involving the son of Archbishop Salifu Amoako has struck a deeply emotional chord.
Her words, raw and honest, offer a glimpse into the mental anguish and emotional toll that such incidents leave behind, not just for those directly involved, but for the broader community.
Reflecting on the tragic event, Ophelia did not shy away from acknowledging the Archbishop’s profound influence on her own career. “Archbishop Salifu Amoako was the one who made our ministry stronger and bigger,” she shared, attributing much of her success and spiritual journey to the revered leader.

In recounting her reaction to the accident, Ophelia laid bare her emotional turmoil. “I broke down. I couldn’t sleep for three days; I had a headache,” she confessed. It wasn’t just the news itself, but the haunting thought of what might have been.
“I kept wondering, if it were me in that position, what would I do?” This reflection reveals not only her empathy for the Archbishop and his family but also the universal fear of unpredictable tragedies and the deep, unsettling question of how one would cope in such circumstances.
The incident involved the Archbishop’s son, who, in what seems to have been a reckless and ill-fated decision, took a car without proper permission, leading to the fatal crash. Two young girls lost their lives, leaving a community grieving and questioning how something so heartbreaking could happen.
Ophelia, like many others, struggled to comprehend the mindset of the young man responsible. “I can’t fathom what is going on in his mind,” she said, her voice heavy with emotion.
As the mother of the young man faces public scrutiny, Ophelia voiced a shared concern among parents, who often find themselves held accountable for their children’s actions. “The boy has brought problems to his parents,” she remarked.
“People will question why he couldn’t train his children properly, all because of a stubborn son who chose not to listen.” The burden of parental responsibility, amplified in times of tragedy, can be an overwhelming weight, especially when a child’s actions have life-altering consequences.

Ophelia’s words also hint at the complex dynamics within the family. “Even during the incident, I’m sure they didn’t know he had taken the keys to move the car,” she speculated.
