Ghana’s most prolific player of all time, Asamoah Gyan has revealed in a new interview that he sought advice from his family before deciding to join the Chinese Super League.
After a successful stint with Al Ain in the UAE, Gyan secured a lucrative two-year contract with Shanghai SIPG in July 2015, reportedly earning £227,000 per week.
Despite facing setbacks due to injuries during his time in China, which limited him to 28 appearances and eight goals between 2015 and 2016, Gyan mentioned that he found the move challenging but ultimately believed it was the right choice after discussing it with his family.
He admitted that deciding to move to China was challenging, and he sought advice from those close to him.
“I was advised to take the lucrative deal because they believed it was the best choice for me,” Gyan explained.
“It was a tough decision, but after consulting with everyone around me, we concluded that it was the right move,” he added.
Fortunately, the decision paid off, and Gyan said the move enabled him to establish successful companies that provided employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
Asamoah Gyan made a significant move in 2015 when he signed a two-year contract with Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League, earning a weekly salary of £227,000.
This move was notable for the league, which had been investing heavily to boost its growth. Before his time in China, Gyan was the highest-paid African footballer while playing in the UAE, with his salary increasing to £225,000 per week after joining Shanghai Shenhua in 2015.
