Hasaacas Ladies from Ghana were unable to qualify for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, despite a commanding 6-1 win against Niger’s AS Garde National in their final Group B encounter.
The Ghanaian champions needed to achieve a six-goal victory to surpass Omnisports Etincelle in the standings.
Both teams ended with four points, but Omnisports progressed to the semifinals due to a better goal difference.
According to Ghanasoccernet, Hasaacas took an early lead with Fatoumata Tamboura scoring in the 20th minute.
Grace Animah and Comfort Owusu quickly followed with two additional goals, bringing the score to 3-0. AS Garde managed to score before halftime, but Hasaacas maintained control of the match.
In the second half, Owusu netted her second goal, restoring the three-goal cushion. Although the Ghanaian team created numerous chances, they found it difficult to increase their lead.
In stoppage time, Animah and Abigail Sakyiwaa each scored, finalizing the match at 6-1, but it was insufficient to advance to the next round.
The CAF Women’s Champions League is a yearly competition for African women’s football clubs, initiated on September 12, 2020, and overseen by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This tournament serves as the women’s equivalent to the CAF Champions League.
