Haaland Makes Premier League History With Strike Against West Ham

Erling Haaland has surpassed the record for most goals scored in a single Premier League campaign.

The Norwegian international who is just 22 years old broke the previous mark of 34 goals shared by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole on Wednesday by scoring his 35th league goal of the season in Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over West Ham.

Haaland had already surpassed Mohamed Salah of Liverpool’s 32 goals during the 2017–18 season to set a new record for the most goals in a 38–game season.

Haaland still has five games left in the current season to add to his already amazing total. It’s important to note that Shearer and Cole both reached their records during seasons with 22 clubs competing in the top division, giving them four more games to participate in.

In contrast, Haaland has achieved his record in just 31 games in his debut season in English football. Haaland’s impressive performance throughout the season has been a key factor in Manchester City’s success, as they currently sit at the top of the Premier League table.

Erling Haaland biography

Erling Haaland is a professional football player from Norway who competes for both the Norway national team and Premier League club Manchester City as a striker.

He is regarded as one of the top players in the world and is well-known for his strength, pace, and ability to finish in the box. With 35 goals in 31 appearances, he holds the Premier League record for the most goals scored by one player in a single season.

Coming through the youth system, Haaland played at senior level for Bryne’s reserve and senior teams. He then moved to Molde in 2017 (also playing for their reserve team), with whom he spent two seasons.

Haaland signed with Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2019, winning two league titles and one Austrian Cup. In December 2019, he moved to German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, where he won the DFB-Pokal in 2020–21. In the summer of 2022, he transferred to Manchester City for a fee of €60 million (£51.2 million).
