Gianni Infantino Re-elected FIFA President Until 2027

Gianni Infantino has been re-elected as FIFA president unopposed during the organization’s assembly on Thursday.

The 211 member federations’ delegates ushered in the 52-year-old Swiss attorney who replaced the disgraced Sepp Blatter in 2016 for a third term by acclamation, just as they did four years prior.

“I love you all,” Infantino told delegates in the Rwandan capital, where the voting system did not register the number of dissident voices.

Infantino declared in December that his first three years as president did not count as a full term, despite FIFA laws presently limiting a president to a maximum of three four-year terms. This has already set the stage for Infantino to remain until 2031.

While the women’s World Cup will feature 32 teams for the first time in Australia and New Zealand later this year, the men’s World Cup will grow from 32 teams to 48 for the next iteration in North America in 2026.

In addition, Infantino forecasted revenue of $11 billion for the four years leading up to 2026, up from $7.5 billion for the previous cycle of four years concluding in 2022.

Infantino was born in Brig, Swiss, on March 23, 1970. He was born in Switzerland to Italian immigrants from Calabria and Lombardy, and he holds dual status in both nations. He attended the University of Fribourg to study law. He knows English, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, Spanish, French, and German with ease.
