Maxwell Woledzi’s rise in Norwegian football has been nothing short of remarkable. The 23-year-old defender has been named in Norway’s Team of the Year, a well-deserved accolade after a stellar campaign with Fredrikstad.
Joining the club in 2023 from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes, Woledzi quickly established himself as the backbone of Fredrikstad’s defence.
Throughout the 2024 season, he made 29 commanding appearances, tallying an impressive 54 interceptions—earning him the second-highest ranking in this category across the league.
Fredrikstad’s journey was no less extraordinary, finishing sixth in the league and clinching the Norway Cup in a dramatic finale.
This victory didn’t just add silverware to their cabinet but also secured them a coveted spot in next season’s UEFA Europa League qualifiers. For Woledzi, it was a season where hard work met glory.
“It’s been an incredible year, and I’m grateful for the faith Fredrikstad has shown in me,” Woledzi shared in a post-match interview. “Being recognized as one of the best in the league is a dream come true.”
A product of Ghana’s famed Right to Dream Academy, Woledzi honed his skills alongside now-global stars like Mohammed Kudus, Mohamed Diomande, and Simon Adingra at FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark. His journey reflects a story of patience, talent, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Unsurprisingly, his heroics have not gone unnoticed. Several top clubs in Norway and across Scandinavia are reportedly eyeing the Ghanaian defender.
However, with his current contract running until the summer of 2026, Fredrikstad fans can rest easy knowing their defensive stalwart isn’t going anywhere just yet.
