Ghana has set a remarkable precedent in African sports history by becoming the first nation on the continent to host both Level 1 and Level 2 Rugby League coaching and match officials courses.
This historic achievement took place from January 5 to 8, 2025, in the vibrant settings of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and Legon Rugby Field.
The four-day event attracted a diverse mix of participants, with representatives coming from across the country, including senior and basic schools, rugby clubs, the National Sports Authority (NSA), and even immigration services.
With so many fields represented, the event highlighted the importance of rugby league in fostering community engagement and sporting excellence across various sectors.
Led by renowned professionals such as Martin Crick, Educators Manager; Gaby Haddad, Coach Tutor; and Phil Smith, Match Official Educator, the courses offered both technical knowledge and practical insights into the development of rugby league in Ghana and throughout Africa.
These experts shared their extensive experience, guiding participants through the nuances of coaching, officiating, and building a sustainable rugby culture.
The program was designed to balance theory with hands-on practice, ensuring attendees gained real-world skills they could apply immediately.
