In a decisive move, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced an indefinite ban on Real Tamale United FC (RTU) from utilizing the Aliu Mahama Stadium as its home venue.
The swift decision comes on the heels of a Premier League match between RTU and Medeama Sporting Club on January 3, 2024, marred by criminal assaults on match officials by home supporters.
Citing Premier League Regulations Article 14(2), the GFA asserts its authority to close a league center when the safety of clubs, match officials, or spectators is compromised.
Effective immediately, the ban prompts the Competitions Department to determine alternative venues for RTU’s upcoming home matches, adhering to Premier League Regulations Article 14(3).
Crucially, the ban remains impartial to the case currently under review by the Disciplinary Committee, emphasizing the GFA’s commitment to a fair and expedited resolution in line with existing regulations.
“This order is, however, without prejudice to the determination of the case pending before the Disciplinary Committee who have been charged to hear the case in accordance with the relevant regulations,” the FA said.
Condemning the reprehensible conduct of RTU supporters during the match, the GFA notes violations of safety and security regulations and Premier League norms.

To expedite the disciplinary process, GFA Prosecutors have been tasked with expeditiously reviewing video evidence and match reports to levy appropriate charges. The GFA further emphasizes RTU’s responsibility to collaborate with the Regional Police for the prompt arrest of individuals involved in the reprehensible attack on match officials.

Pending the Disciplinary Committee’s determination, the Competitions Department is directed to allocate venues for RTU’s home matches, taking into account the logistical considerations for away teams. The GFA underscores the uncompromising expectation that all clubs adhere strictly to safety and security regulations, as well as the GFA Disciplinary Code.
In a stern warning, the GFA further cautioned against any form of harassment or violence directed at players, team officials, match officials, or sports media.
