Freezy MacBones Snubs Ghana As He Naturalizes For UK

Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, better known as Freezy MacBones has chosen to naturalize for the UK.

According to the GBA chairman Abraham Neequaye, Seth, also known as Freezy MacBones, had previously intended to compete under the Ghanaian flag but made a last-minute switch.

Following his victory over Darryl Sharp at the Copper Boxing Arena in London in April, the professional boxer initially attracted the nation’s notice.

The 33-year-old recently competed in an undercard fight for the Joe Joyce vs. Zhilei Zhang main event, winning by unanimous decision of the judges.

It was only his second professional fight since leaving Ghana for the United Kingdom. Many Ghanaians were inspired by his accomplishment to consider whether he should represent their country internationally.

However, the Association asserts that Freezy applied for a GBA license before his most recent fights, making him a Ghanaian fighter.

Prior to his fight with Darryl Sharp, he changed to a UK license to participate as a British person. Neequaye stated, “We sent him a message and he can confirm it,” in an interview with Romeo TV.

Neequaye in an interview with Romeo TV said, “We sent him a message and he can confirm it. “Before his fight in the UK, he had come to Ghana to get a license from the Ghana Boxing Authority. He came for our license, but when it was time to get a release letter from us, he changed his mind and decided to fight as a UK national.”

Freezy McBones to represent Ghana?

Abraham Kotei Neequaye in an earlier report shared on Tru News Report, claimed the organization is taking its time approaching Seth Gyimah, a Ghanaian boxer based in the UK, about representing Ghana.

Gyimah, also known as Freezy MacBones, must demonstrate to the authorities that he is dedicated to fighting for Ghana because they are prepared to offer the required help, in his opinion. Following his victory over Darryl Sharp at the Copper Boxing Arena in London last Saturday, the 33-year-old has been in the news.

Due to Gyimah’s Ghanaian heritage, there have been requests for the GBA to take into consideration having the lightweight battle on the ticket of his own nation. Kotei Neequaye asserts that the authority will not initiate contact with him.

“We are not supposed to call him. He should reach out to us if he wants to fight as a Ghanaian, we are ready to support him,” he said on Accra-based Angel FM. Gyimah caught the attention of Ghanaians after his emotional interview with Joy Sports soon after his win over Sharp.

“It was a tough time [for me when I started boxing] because obviously, we have a lot of great boxers in the UK and as a village boy travelling all the way from Ghana to start boxing here at the age of 27, a lot of criticism came up,” he said.

“A lot of people quizzed my decision to start boxing and asked if there was an injury who was going to look after me. [At that] time I was an amateur – no income and nothing coming up. People said ‘You need to stay focused and keep doing your cleaning job’.

“There was a whole lot but I never let myself down. I kept working hard and working toward my dream, pushing myself up until it happened,” he added.

With his victory from last weekend, Gyimah now pose a record of two wins in his first two professional fights.
