Former Valencia CF midfielder Jose Castillejo is dead following the devastating floods that ravaged Spain, resulting in the deaths of over 150 people.

These floods, caused by the severe weather phenomenon known as DANA, have wreaked havoc across various regions, prompting an outpouring of grief and support from the community.

At just 28 years old, Castillejo’s football journey began at Valencia CF, where he developed his skills in the club’s youth academy. Valencia CF released a heartfelt statement, expressing their condolences:

“Valencia CF mourns the loss of José Castillejo, a victim of the recent floods. José progressed through our youth system until the U18 level and made his mark at various clubs in the region.”

Throughout his career, Castillejo also showcased his talent at clubs such as Bunol, Recambios Colon, Roda, Torre Levante, and Villamarxant.

The impact he had on these teams was profound, leading to an outpouring of tributes. CD Eldense, where he played during the 2015/2016 season, conveyed their sorrow, stating, “We are devastated by the news coming from the catastrophic DANA.

CD Eldense expresses its deepest sympathies for the untimely passing of José Castillejo at just 28 years old. Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace.”

Roda, another club that had the honour of having him on their roster, shared their grief with a poignant message:

“We are saddened to announce the passing of Jose Castillejo, who wore our colours during the 18/19 season. Rest in peace, Jose. You will always hold a special place in our memories. Our love goes out to your family and friends.”

In response to the ongoing crisis, Valencia CF has rallied to support the affected communities. Players, including Maximiliano Caufriez, Jesus Vazquez, and Thierry Rendall, were spotted collecting essential supplies at Mestalla Stadium, which has become a refuge for those in need during this trying period.
