He was 46 years old. Haggans was selected by the Steelers in the 2000 fifth round. He was a member of the inaugural draft class of former general manager Kevin Colbert and played collegiate basketball for Colorado State.

Haggans played in the NFL for 14 seasons total, 14 of which were in Pittsburgh. Haggans started 61 games for the Steelers during his tenure there and finished with 32.5 sacks. His greatest season was in 2005 when he started 13 games and recorded 9.0 sacks.
